Mark Hamill Reportedly Offered Role Of Vesemir In ‘The Witcher’

As production on Netflix’s 2nd season of The Witcher ramps up, we’re hearing some really amazing rumours concerning an extremely requested spot of casting. According to a new report, Mark Hamill has been offered the role of Vesemir, Geralt’s old good friend and mentor.

This happens after the Star Wars veteran (half-jokingly) revealed interest in playing the character on Twitter last year. This quickly resulted in an enthusiastic fan campaign from viewers who thought Hamill would be the best the fit for the role. The possibility of Hamill joining the cast then appeared closer than ever to coming true when The Witcher showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich informed IGN that the star had always been of interest to the project.

” We have not called his agent yet since we’re not casting the function quite yet,” Hissrich discussed last month. “But that being said, I am loving what’s happening on the internet. And I’m loving all of the fan response to it. Undoubtedly, we’ve seen what a substantial fanbase The Witcher has, and to include that to a Star Wars fanbase … it makes my mind take off a bit.”

With filming on the new season reportedly set to kick off in the UK in simply a few days, it would seem that Hissrich and her group are now casting for the function. We Got This Covered claims to have actually spoken with a previously reliable source near production that Hamill has finally been used the part fans are desperate to see him play.

While this is an undeniably amazing development, it’s far from guaranteed right now. Presuming this report is genuine, there’s still the concern of whether Hamill will accept the role. Other work dedications and scheduling problems might avoid the star from taking it on, even if he wants to join Andrzej Sapkowski’s gritty fantasy world.

The next time we’ll see The Witcher on Netflix will be for a recently announced anime spinoff movie. The Nightmare of the Wolf is meant to bridge the gap in between the two seasons, and will actually focus on the origins of Vesemir. Presumably this is ahead of the character playing a significant role in season 2, but, we’ll have to wait and see.

In other casting news related to The Witcher, Deadline reports that British star Carmel Laniado will be handling a supporting role in the upcoming season for a minimum of 3 episodes. Her character, a girl called Violet, has actually been referred to as someone “whose playful and whimsical demeanour is a front for a smarter and more vicious character”. Oooh.
